Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Dr. John M. McGilvray earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of South Alabama in 1987 before pursuing his Ph.D in Chemistry at the University of Florida, which he received in 1992. He later pursued his passion for healthcare, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2001.

Since beginning private practice in 2002, he has been committed to providing personalized, patient-centered care while building meaningful connections with families across generations throughout the Pensacola community. Many of his patients have become lifelong friends, and he considers earning the trust of entire families to be one of the greatest privileges of his career.

Dr. McGilvray is passionate about caring for individuals with special needs and is proud to provide dental care to residents of several local group homes, expanding access to quality oral healthcare for underserved populations. He is committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care in a welcoming environment where every patient feels comfortable, respected, and confident in their smile. Dr. McGilvray’s philosophy of care begins with trust, compassion, and building lasting relationships that support lifelong oral health.

Outside the office, Dr. McGilvray enjoys restoring antique cars and tractors, woodworking, metalworking, fishing, riding motorcycles, spending time in the mountains of North Carolina, and celebrating the traditions of Mobile Mardi Gras. He and his wife, Victoria, have been married for more than 31 years and are proud parents of two children.
